It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has achieved everything.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, taking back their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the pitchers that have represented Australia over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to possess a record if not afforded the chance.

In the end, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her newest gem.

Then best known as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her debut and seven international trophies have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Many contend the case for championship match pressure. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this ton was considerably tougher to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she was the highest scorer, but this performance followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it was a challenging time because it appeared I lacked timing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive nature activate and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her great strength - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from that point the right-hander was underway.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was dismissed the team needed 66 more at run per delivery - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the assurance to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it again but, if we do, we believe we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this tournament should hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has become more firm - this triumph following success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was in the semi-finals they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So great is her will, she subsequently stated she regretted not playing despite the injury.

But while she later admitted those physical issues have delayed thoughts of retirement, this tournament is anticipated as her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as leader.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
